Dr Jack Stroud

Clinical Psychologist

On a personal level, I know how hard it is to take the first step to contact a therapist. You can read many descriptions but nothing beats actually meeting the therapist and having a conversation. I recommend booking in at least two therapists for a first appointment and then seeing which one feels like the right fit. So please get in touch for a free 30-minute consultation and we can see if I am the right person to help you.

About me

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 6 years experience in both clinical and research environments. I have previously worked in the National Health Service (NHS) providing therapy to adults, including working for a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) specialist clinic.

I work with a wide range of anxiety and mood problems such as depression, OCD, stress, low self-esteem, burnout, persistent panic attacks, health anxiety, experiences of depersonalisation/derealisation and social anxiety. I will tell you if I do not think I am the right person to help you and provide onwards recommendations.

I specialise in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and also provide narrative exposure therapy (NET). I have a particular interest and further experience in the following:

  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Working with people who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, with or without PTSD symptoms

  • People who are experiencing persistent distress following an adverse drug experience (e.g. a "bad trip")

  • People who are experiencing persistent distress associated with an audiovestibular condition such as tinnitus.

I have also published several research articles in peer-reviewed academic journals. My research is focussed on psychopharmacology (how drugs affect the mind) including the adverse effects of psychedelic drugs.

Qualifications

I hold the following degrees in the highest classification:

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (UCL)

  • MSc in Clinical Mental Health Science (UCL)

  • BA in Experimental Psychology (University of Oxford)

I have completed additional training in various areas including: cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative exposure therapy (NET), adapting therapy for autistic people, working with interpreters etc.

I have also delivered training to other clinicians, e.g. on the topics of assessing & treating PTSD and social anxiety.
